PST file is a type of Outlook data file that contains all your Outlook data such as emails, calendars, contacts, notes, journals etc. This PST file is typically stored as a local file on your computer. These files were introduced because in the earlier days, the size of online storage for emails was small. So, when emails exceeded their limit, the older emails could be easily transferred to the local PST file to make space for new emails. But with the later versions of Outlook, this process of moving emails to PST file takes place automatically.
Because every email, every contact and everything in Outlook is backed up on a PST file, this file can grow to a very large size. And large size PST means greater is the chance of corruption. Of course, size is one of the factors contributing to corruption in PST files, but there are others as well like the ones described below:
When PST files are corrupted due to these reasons or any other reasons, the emails in it cannot be accessed. In such cases, you will need third party tools like Remo Repair to repair the PST file first and then recover emails.
